The Creation of the Son and Moon

The Goddess asked the brightest star in the sky to give us light and warmth. For a while all went well, all her creatures enjoyed the light of the star. The Goddess was so pleased with the star, she decided to give it the name, Son. But the Son grew restless and decided to leave. In the blink of an eye the new world was plunged into the darkness and despair of the Void. The new creatures found themselves preyed upon by creatures of the Void and hope began to die. Evil Void creatures began to take the new world for themselves.

The Goddess realised that one guardian for her new world was not enough and so she sent for the Moon. The Moon was not as bright as the Son, but it reflected the light of all the stars in the sky to light the world. The Moon answered her call but no matter how bright it lit the world it could not save it from the Void. The Moon illuminated some corners but lurking in the darkness were the creatures of the Void. At least the world would not be destroyed, but its life hung in the balance. The Goddess herself was feeling the sickness that had been wrought onto the world. She turned to the stars and asked them to find the Son and return him back to the new world. A hundred thousand stars raced through the sky in many directions to find him, the shooting messengers of the Goddess. Finally, one star found him and convinced him to return and see what had happened.

When the Son returned he saw how ill the Goddess had become ill but when he saw the Moon lighting the world he grew jealous. It was not long before the two began to fight each other and the world was plunged into more darkness and despair. As the two giants fought, molten rocks fell onto the world and many creatures died in the furnace heat. Finally, a small star who had seen this from far away decided enough was enough. The Goddess was too sick to stop them so the small star drew himself up to his full height and spoke sternly to the Son and Moon. "Stop your fighting," he cried, "Look at what you have done!" The Son and Moon looked at the world and at the Goddess, both of them realised how much destruction they had wrought. The tiny star took a deep breath and swallowed his fear, "From now on you will each stay away from each other and circle this World, both moving round it slowly but try to stay apart from each other."

The two mighty titans nodded in agreement and moved as the tiny star had told them to. There were no more fights, the World began to grow in hope again and the Void creatures began to recede. As the Void diminished, strength returned to the Goddess, for her life force was linked to this world. Finally, the Goddess turned to the tiny Star and said, "You're bravery with these two giants must be rewarded, I trust you to watch over the Son and Moon to make sure they do not fight again. So that the world will know you are there, I shall make you the brightest star in the sky and ask you to be always in the North." The tiny star agreed and took up it's position to watch the Son and Moon forever. Followers of the Goddess look to the North and remember the bravery of the North Star. Sometimes you can still see when the Son and Moon meet together to fight, the world is plunged into darkness until the North Star reminds them of their promise.
