The Grand Renewal of Magic 1105 - The Dauphin and Guerron

The history of Prince Guerron amongst our peoples has been told before now, but to very briefly bring us up to speed:

Prince Guerron was the brother of the Dauphin of his time. A brave Paladin, and hero of the peoples, he was well respected and much loved, along with his brother. Over time, the Void crept into his mind, convinced Guerron that with his brother the Dauphin's successes were overshadowing him and that he would be cast aside. Guerron led those loyal to him into a state of civil war, believing that he was doing the work of the Goddess. He was defeated, but his hatred and devotion drove him on into unlife, and he rose again at the head of a horrifying army of death.

Though his army was defeated time and time again, Guerron escaped and raised another. The lands despaired until finally he was trapped and utterly defeated. The King, wishing to save the soul of his son, had his spirit bound within a Blood Red gem. Entrusting this gem to his advisors, the power of the Void within this object corrupted he who kept it, and a young priest in the name of the Goddess took the gem to safety.

Tragically he was waylaid, and murdered by a band of Goblins.

Generations later, the gem re-emerged with the leader of the Blood Eye Orcs, who harassed the Algaian lands one year ago. Upon his defeat at the Grand Renewal of Magic 1104, the gem was shattered and Guerron escaped, and once more began to plague our land with creatures of Undeath.

Two events in particular occurred related to this at the Grand Renewal. Ashley, a Champion of Guerron, came to challenge our mightiest. Larn fought bravely and won. Ashley passed to him his sword, believed to be a powerful and ancient artefact of our peoples. Research continues.

Our camp was attacked savagely by the Undead on the Saturday evening. The attack was beaten off, and a powerful wraith who some believe to have been Guerron was destroyed, though whether this was indeed the fallen prince is yet to be seen.

In a related matter, the current Dauphin to the land of Estregalles was found on the Saturday evening. Being moved by his bodyguards from Loren, it came to our attention that they were under grave danger of capture by the swarm. A small expedition set out to rescue him, and whilst the Dauphin was recovered safely, there were a number of problems. His bodyguards, mistrustful of us, would not give him up easily, and would not come with us to safety. The Dauphin was recovered and taken to the safety of our camp, but his bodyguards were sadly slain by the Swarm, unprepared to listen to Brother Foxton's wise words, and who did not accept our protection.

The Dauphin is now safe.
